(I know it’s etiquette but if I follow you, you are NOT obligated to follow me back.)

(Since this is A Thing: I block indiscriminately. Don’t take it personal. It’s just one of them days.)
lol this reminds me of the long protracted online “debate” over M4A details among Warren/Sanders/others in the 2020 Dem primary only for the offline Joe Biden to win it. Like. You’re arguing over a fantasy that distracts from the reality of what needs to be done

As a lapsed Catholic who attends mass, I am struck by how the rituals of activism has replaced the rituals of religion as a way to communicate solidarity/comfort. But lapsed Catholics seem to view rituals as symbolism and ~not~ Doing Works and I’m not sure how much the same applies to activism RN.

History says the opposite FYI

Unironically using the word “idpol” is definitely a red flag

It helps that: 1) education polarization may actually be effective in helping obfuscate macroeconomic factors 2) segregation (racial/economic/geographic) allows for people to believe that the ill effects of economic policies can be mitigated by pushing consequences on people they don’t know

Glad this account blocked me because I can say with my whole chest: this is pretty much the opposite of a materialist way of understanding language, especially sociopolitical language. Call it philosophy, call it religion, call it Plato’s idealism … it is not a historically minded interpretation.

I think what I dislike about the use of “treats” to frame this discourse is that no party to this discussion would consider the device they’re typing with as a treat. I deeply suspect that people who type this also think information technology should be free.

An extremely balanced take on The New Literalism piece in The New Yorker 🙃

Nah … not a huge fan of it as it seems to die on the absolute lack of chemistry between the leads (sorry) but I’ve fantasized dropping Denzel into it. The Branagh version leans into the cheese pretty hard.

So … I sort of want to get off this self perpetuating cycle of debating America. It is undergraduate shit at this point and clearly being either a “hell no” optimistic or a “hell yes” doomer has been deeply ineffective as praxis.

In the middle of this we get glimpses that this person 1) lives in California 2) and has or does not need a car 3) depends on electronics for their job. This which leads me to assume a few things like 1) office job 2) in an area dense enough for walking/reliable public transit

The youth have lots of comments about politics but then you find out after a tedious back and forth:
