SHELTER-IN-PLACE: OPP is requesting the public in the area of King Street and Bowman Avenue in Kapuskasing to shelter-in-place. Police are continuing to respond to an active incident in the area. Please remain indoors with doors and windows locked and stay away from the area until further notice. A heavy police presence can be expected. We recognize the significant emotional impact that receiving a shelter-in-place can cause. Officers are taking every precaution necessary to resolve this situation. A large crowd of close to 2,000 people marched through downtown Toronto Saturday afternoon as part of Canada-wide protests calling on the new Liberal government to prioritize the climate, Indigenous rights, migrants and workers ahead of the fall budget. Protesters' concerns included Prime Minister Mark Carney's support for new fossil fuel projects, potential public service cuts as well as other issues like Indigenous rights, anti-war activism and more. Organizers said in a release that the Liberal government's agenda "pushes forward climate destructive pipelines, continues the arming of Israel and scapegoats migrants." Please note I am not Pooh-poohing the idea. But... having worked in a gold mine I can tell you there are a lot of environmental concerns when using cyanide in any kind of process, and this appears to be where the nitrogen for the "doping" is coming from. So I have concerns.
The chemistry is then doped (their word, not ours) with nitrogen from cyanide to reduce side reactions that result in pesky dendrite formation. That’s like plaque build-up, which eventually causes all batteries to fail. These added elements clean up the contacts, meaning the main chemicals can continue reacting, aiding the charging cycle rate, and keeping temperatures lower than in conventional batteries. Those clever folk in lab coats are targeting an energy density upwards of 400Wh/kg, and might reasonably get a solid-state battery to 600Wh/kg. There is a large cloud of smoke covering most of Ontario northern Manitoba northern Saskatchewan southern Yukon Southern Northwestern territories and Minnesota and North Dakota. The fire situation and northern Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Ontario, has led to smoky air for most of July 2025. The air quality index is in indicated at left by a chart reading from 1 to 12 where 1 is blue or best air quality and 12 is dark brown, or worst air quality. Most northern Ontario Minnesota North Dakota and Manitoba and northern Saskatchewan are covered in air ranging from quality three to quality seven. The northern areas of Manitoba and some parts of Ontario and southern Yukon are covered in areas of brown indicating still burning fires.
