and when that happens, it's often a very conscious choice too :/

i could have asked, "why do i have do this assignment?" etc but at least had the sense not to
i absolutely would have gotten lashes on my palms/legs by the teacher with a wooden stick and ostracized by adults and kids alike

But anyways, yeah it'd be nice if humans refrained from perpetuating their own accumulated animosity across generations and were able to act and think without being crippled/motivated by tribalism

ain't no way it's ever happening, but it'd be pretty fucking nice, just a thought

And those sentiments were absolutely encouraged in children

As an adult looking back, after growing up in another country without that obligatory, guilt-driven need to show loyalty and respect to elders by agreeing and adopting THEIR bitterness, that was absolutely not the right thing to do

i get it, i really, truly do
but we were like...8 years old, barely able to tie our own shoes
how the fuck were they expecting little kids to grasp such complex and mature topics?
The only thing i could understand was anger, bitterness, and hatred the adults were passing onto us and was so confused

in elementary school, this is early 90s s korea i remember school projects after projects about Dokdo (Takeshima) being Korean and the independence movements during japanese occupation and the projects always had a sentiment of extreeeme hatred and bitterness towards the japanese

Oooh good catch!! Thank you for the correction i think "beauty and the beast = 3d cgi usage" was so drilled into my head as a student that i wasn't as aware of the earlier films experimenting with it too

but again, THEIR life experiences and trauma/baggage were theirs to work through
Let kids understand the ugly history of war and human nature. tell them about your perspective living under japanese annexation, (it was absolutely fucked, i know.)

But the mature thing to do: Let the kids fucking cook

Guess i do need to say it's not just japan with the rising sun thing, or america with its own autistic nationalism/insecurity

growing up in south korea, it was absolutely baffling to experience s. korean adults passing down their beef with japan.
THEIR sentiments are absolutely justified

for the less informed, that's basically the japanese version of the nazi flag

i'm not japanese myself but as a fellow adult human, it just feels incredibly irresponsible and immature to pass down your own hang ups and insecurity to children, who will inadvertently suffer from their OWN problems
