Y'know, shoutouts to this for being reasonable to hand letter, btw.

I know that other nerd shows like Dr.Who have their own ciphers tucked about but they're almost always completely Byzantine and impractical. This is one I can scrawl out even in a hurry most of the time.

I would argue that it is real, but it has been hyper romanticized by foreign media to the point where they have actually twisted it around and got it completely backwards. First, "jólabókaflóð" (e. the Christmas book flood) does not refer to an Icelandic Christmas tradition of giving books as Christmas gifts and reading them while eating chocolate on Christmas eve. It's a term used to describe a commercial, market phenomenon, where most publishers and authors hold off publishing new books and wait until just before Christmas to release them, in order to maximize their sales. But, secondly, books are genuinely a very popular Christmas gift in Iceland. From personal experience, I can't remember having ever not received at least one book during Christmas. So, there is a reason why they "flood" the market with books in December.
