I can't do that anymore. They seem to have weirdly decided that regardless of size or weight trans people couldn't possibly have a high enough blood volume to donate.

A 5"4 50kg cis woman supposedly has more blood than a 5"11 90kg trans woman.

Blood volume
A total blood volume (TBV) is a calculation used to assess a donor’s eligibility to donate. It is measured based on a donor‘s height, weight and gender. In line with European guidelines, all donors require a blood volume of at least 3.5 litres to donate safely. Generally a minimum weight requirement ensures that donors meet this standard, however the IBTS has noted a higher incidence of fainting in new and returning female donors and and has introduced guidelines to assess these donors’ blood volume prior to donation. In order to protect the safety of transgender male donors, The IBTS will calculate the TBV of
all transgender donors. Changes that occur when taking hormones (HRT) will affect an individual’s muscle and fat mass which could affect their TBV.

What type of donation will I be eligible to give?
A transgender donor will be eligible to give a whole blood donation. They will not be eligible to donate platelets by apheresis because of the issues relating to blood volume discussed above.

If I am ever to trust Sinn Fein as a party I can trust to give us a United Ireland, protect and improve the living standard for all Irish trans people, and fight against bigotry in all forms I would like answers to the following questions to get both the parties positions and your own on the fundamental rights of trans people within Ireland, and Ireland's position as an independent nation free of control from a British government.

1. Will you and/or Sinn Fein publicly commit to overturning the puberty blocker ban in Northern Ireland that is negatively effecting Irish children?

2. Will you and/or Sinn Fein publicly commit to giving trans children in access to Internationally recognized healthcare in the form of puberty blockers and or hormone replacement therapy?

3. Will you and/or Sinn Fein publicly commit to banning any and all forms of conversion therapy that target people for their sexual orientation and/or gender identity?

4. Will you and/or Sinn Fein publicly commit to introducing the WPATH standards of care for trans people accessing healthcare in Ireland?

5. Will you and/or Sinn Fein publicly commit to introducing legal recognition of those with a non-binary gender identity?

6. Will you and/or Sinn Fein publicly state that trans peoples access to single gendered spaces will not be revoked on the basis of lies that trans people are dangerous?

7. Will you and/or Sinn Fein publicly state that trans men in Ireland are men for all purpose in law and trans women are women for all purpose in law?

8. Will you and/or Sinn Fein publicly state that the decision made by a British court have as much relevance to the Irish people as any other foreign court?

9. Will Sinn Fein publicly apologize for the actions of two of their TDs and state unequivocally that they do not represent the party and that their bigoted beliefs have no place in and independent Ireland?

I want to be able to continue supporting Sinn Fein, but at present it appears to me as doe my beliefs of inclusivity and acceptance for all, and an Irish nation free from both British rule and influence may have been misplaced.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Make sure to let your local Sinn Fein TDs know what you think of their parties backtrack on trans rights, and acquiesce to the British government and courts.

Hello Deputy Ó'Murchú,

I am writing to you today to express my disappointment in the comments and actions made by Sinn Fein in the past year.

My disappointment started with the decision by Sinn Fein to support the ban on trans children accessing puberty blockers in Northern Ireland. The basis for this was a report commissioned by the conservative party that has significant and well evidenced flaws. Irish children have had their healthcare cut off by Sinn Fein due to a British decision. Multiple EU and other nations have since commissioned their own reviews and decided against banning trans children from accessing this treatment and that to do ban this treatment would be to the detriment of trans children. These include Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, France, Japan, Canada, and Australia. With all this evidence Sinn Fein have not sought to reverse the ban imposed by a foreign government on Irish childrens access to healthcare.

Even with that I was not ready to give up on Sinn Fein as a party. I voted for Gerry Adams during the first election after I turned 18, Mary Lou McDonald the second time after moving to Dublin, and yourself as well as the two other Sinn Fein candidates in the last general election.

However in the past week the UK supreme court has decided that trans people should bo longer be considered their gender for the purposes of the UK equality act. This has led to great fear and panic among the UK trans community who now face the likelihood that they will face a ban from using the restroom in peace, forced outing in all social settings, and being faced with strip searches from officers that are if a different gender.

Despite Ireland being an independent nation that was freed from British rule because of the blood sweat and tears of the Irish people two different Sinn Fein TDs have since come out to argue Ireland should take into consideration a rulling made by a foreign Court.

The first is David Cullinane, who called the resent decision by the British supreme court to strip trans people of many of the protections they had under the Equality act a "common sense" decision before going on to say this should be examined in Ireland. Describing the idea that trans people should be excluded from spaces they have had the right to access in Ireland for over a decade should be revoked, that there should be legal protection to bar trans people from accessing both men's and women's spaces, the idea that the presence of a trans woman in a women's spaces poses a danger to others, the idea that a lesbian should lose her legal protections if she is in a relationship with a trans women as "common sense" is a sicking, bigoted, homophobic, and transphobic position to hold. Let alone arguing the the decision of a British court should be relevant to an independent Ireland.

The second was Pádraig Mac Lochlainn who has said that this decision needs to be debated in Ireland. He has claimed that our laws are unclear despite 10 years of self ID not resulting in the dangers British transphobes proclaim would happen should they end up with the same laws as us. He claims that trans women in Ireland are male and trans men are female and that "clarification" on our laws should be sought. This should be done as women (making it clear here again he is not counting trans women in this definition) are being threatened being threatened by those who would not see trans people made second class citizens. This is a disgusting, bigoted, and false claim based on the idea that trans people, particularly trans women are dangerous and should thus be barred from spaces they have every right to access.

Cullinane has since issued a complete non apology that does not take back the claim that striping rights from trans people is "Common Sense" and I do not accept it as legitimate in any form.

Trans women cannot be included in a women's only space as by law it wouldn't be a women's only space and couldn't exclude cis men.

Additionally, trans women could be banned from the men's space because they are perceived as women and that is a "reasonable objection" now.
