Who knew about this? The areas marked "Kahore I Hokona" (=never sold) are land for which there are no purchase agreements by colonial companies. The land was simply taken from Kai Tahu. You'll notice it includes all the Otago Lakes with their pricey real estate. Totally stolen land. #kikorangi

Found this beautiful (tiny!) Degas etching at the Chch City Art Gallery. Incredible textures created with linework.

This is a rollicking good read. A woman artist living on a remote and creepy Irish island gets a commission from a pagan convent. Excellent twists and turns. @ghet.bsky.social

I got a lot out of this collection of historical and geographical curiosities of Tongariro National Park. It’s a Pākeha history, although there is discussion of pre-European land use and tikanga.

This is a powerful book. We need lots more memoirs written by disabled people. It’s an account of (novelist and screenwriter) Hanif Kureishi’s freak accident, tetraplegia, and rehab. He doesn’t shrink from talking about the awful details, but he also knows how to tell a compelling story.

This is a good read! A place and time (1860, Taranaki) I was glad to know more about.

Fuck countdown potatoes, man. I take off the shoots, clean them, peel off the bad stuff and THEY’RE STILL BAD. They have some disease making the middle blotchy yellow.
