LightHawk is a 501(c)3 nonprofit flying for conservation across North America! Using the power of an aerial perspective, we partner with organizations to tackle pressing environmental challenges and protect habitats, wildlife, and natural resources.
We’re pretty lucky. We get to share the gift of flight with conservation partners across the continent. The aerial perspective brings smiles to faces & inspires people to action. We’re grateful to play a part & love seeing joy on the faces of those we fly.

Thank you to Mountain Outlaw for highlighting the role LightHawk volunteer pilots and aviation play in conservation. Wings Above the Wild shows how flights over complex landscapes provide perspective that supports collaboration, land management, and stewardship.

Wolves play an important role in many ecosystems, but recovery remains fragile in areas of the country. LightHawk supports partners working with wolf species, transporting adults for reintroduction and pups for cross-fostering. Recovery depends on careful, science-based management. #WolfRecovery

#TBT A series of flights in 2021 enabled the Greater Yellowstone Coalition, in collaboration with a pair of highly skilled photographers, to gather images of the beauty and immensity of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.

Do you recognize this river?

It’s the Big Hole River in Montana — vital to wildlife & communities. From the air, a big-picture view of river systems can be seen in a single day, showing upstream pressures to protect rivers like Big Hole.

Last week, LightHawk pilots transported cold-stunned sea turtles to warmer climates for rehabilitation.

Cold-stunning occurs when rapid temperature drops leave turtles unable to swim. Quick flights to rehab centers give them a chance to recover & return to the ocean.

#TBT: 10 years ago, we partnered with Instituto de Ecología Regional to see how habitat loss was driving Mexican pronghorn decline. Today, drought & human pressures still threaten pronghorn in the Southwest & Sonora. An aerial view remains a vital tool, giving imperiled species a chance at recovery.

How about some #WingsforWednesday? Wings lift us into the sky, revealing how landscapes connect & how fragile these places truly are.

Today, we’re especially grateful for your #ColoradoGivesDay support. Thanks for fueling conservation flying!

What does the end of the Colorado River look like?

We took The Mirage Podcast producers over the CO River Delta to see the story from above. This perspective shows where the river’s flow ends & where the work begins.

Today on #ColoradoGivesDay, please help keep conservation flying!

From several days on foot to one morning in the air—that’s the power of an aerial perspective.

“The flight was very useful... We viewed more than 2,000 acres of woodlot, which on foot would have taken several days.”

#TBT | 2015 in Belize.
LightHawk flew over the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary & Victoria Peak Natural Monument to help conservation managers document landscape changes, identify illegal activity hotspots, & strengthen long-term security planning. Today, that same perspective drives conservation.

Recently, one 2-hour flight covered 100 sites for Agricultural Stewardship Assoc. in NY, work that would have taken weeks on the ground. That’s the power of aerial perspective! Give to strengthen the view that informs conservation on #GivingTuesday.
