My fictional Comfort Characters are Bucky Barnes, Dean Winchester and Dick Grayson - adjust your expectations accordingly.
I've been a Canucks fan for over 40 years, I don't even flinch anymore. (The Cam Neely trade, aka the worst trade in NHL history, still keeps me up at night.)
However, that deflating sound you just heard was me.

You could have just said "doesn't apply to poor people", and stopped there, and you would have been just as correct.

Wassail is a drink. Wassailing is going from house to house and singing at them until they give you enough wassail to make you go away; think of it as a cross between caroling and trick-or-treat-but-with-alcohol.

I set the oven timer for 5 minutes when I make tea (unless I forget). One of the benefits is that it won't stop beeping until I get up and turn it off, and then I'm in the kitchen already so I can get my tea.

This meme feels relevant, somehow.

Mustard is good, but horseradish is also good. Unfortunately they don't seem to work well together (at least not for me) so I'll do one or the other, it just depends how hot I want it.

If he's going to change his super-secret Official Superhero Name to his literal civilian last name, he deserves what he gets.
But he still belongs, and still makes the world a better place.

They're so top heavy that they don't even look seaworthy. And it's wearing a stupid hat.

True. And absolutely to your second point.

That's a given. But I can also believe, knowing how these things too often work, that producers are getting paid $1.70 for the same nuts that retailers turn around and sell to us at $17.
November 19, 2025 at 9:21 PM
That must be the price that farmers get paid for the product in bulk, or what workers get paid for harvesting them, or something, because (locally grown, to me) whole hazelnuts retail starting at about 10X that. And that's whole nuts, not milled into flour.
November 19, 2025 at 9:01 PM
Most hazelnuts sold in the US are grown in Oregon, tarrifs shouldn't even enter the conversation.

I'll believe in those when I see them.

That is why, for victims of CSA in particular. As an adult I understand their reasoning; but for abused and gaslit 3 year old me in 1975, the idea that adults don't know everything, and could be WRONG, was revolutionary and so important. It always makes me a little sad the kids who need that lost it

I thought it stood for Hungry.
Make America Hungry Again; they're doing a fantastic job at that already, and making food unsafe to eat only furthers the agenda.

For anybody keeping track, four of those children in skirts are boys. Traditionally dressed in skirts until they were old enough to avoid any fairies who might try to snatch little boys and leave a changeling in their place. Most of the country had stopped doing this well before the 1920s.

The point is... the government doesn't help all people, that's not even what they're doing with the tax dollars that are allocated for it. Fix that FIRST. Don't take away what support there is and hope the government picks up the slack, they've proven they won't.

Bird flu? Possibly only a problem if you have domesticated birds, or cats, or if you're handling them without washing your hands afterwards - but don't take my word for that.

A lot of homeless people have jobs. Many of the ones who don't are either looking for work or receiving (or waiting for) disability/SSI.
November 10, 2025 at 12:04 AM
This really hurts homeless people, who don't even have the option of heating pre-cooked food never mind cooking from scratch, particularly.

Even as a protagonist he comes across as incredibly petty and disagreeable, which is fun. And the fact that everyone else hated him is made clear.

It's really at least as much immigrant mythology as founding fathers mythology, maybe more, and the way those play together is well done in my opinion.
November 7, 2025 at 11:54 PM
Which is why I said "kind of horrible" I'm not suggesting any of them were evil, but nor were any of them exceptionally good. They were just people. And I appreciate that they're portrayed that way.
I watch Hamilton with the understanding that it's mythology not history, and I enjoy it as such.

I'm asexual and agender and have no secret wants to act on. I don't really want to either lead or be led, nor sometimes think, but I would also like hot chocolate and queer community from time to time.
November 7, 2025 at 10:18 PM
I think a lot of people made the mistake of thinking it was a story about history when it's actually a story about mythology.
November 7, 2025 at 9:11 PM
I thought the secret underlying theme of the whole thing was that they were all kind of horrible people. That's certainly the impression I come away with after watching it, anyway.
