“Constellations – The Flow of Belonging” transforms LAC’s transcribed census data into a vibrant narrative, visualizing Canada as a fluid constellation of families, relationships, and connections across the land.

“Echoes of Silence & Surveillance” is a generative motion graphics piece drawing from the Register of Chinese Immigrants to Canada (1886–1949). It exposes the systemic surveillance embedded in Canada’s discriminatory immigration policies.

“Looking Within the Shadows: Repeal and Beyond” is a mural inspired by the Chinese Exclusion Act and Eric’s conversations with members of the Chinese Canadian community. It features Douglas Jung, Canada’s first Chinese Canadian MP.

After the Expo, Eric brought his internationally exhibited work home for a final unveiling at 395 Wellington Street, Ottawa. His residency culminated in three digital art pieces that blend modern aesthetics with historical themes.

Throughout the residency, Eric ran a number of events and exhibitions. One of the highlights was seeing his work displayed at the Canada Pavilion for Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan! 😍

He began with records from the Chinese Exclusion Act, a discriminatory law that restricted Chinese immigration to Canada. As the residency continued, Eric broadened his research to include census data, examining how Canada’s population has changed throughout the years.

She donated most of her paintings to the National Archives of Canada (now Library and Archives Canada), not wanting to sell her work. Her working conditions led to poor health, and she died in 1954 in relative obscurity and poverty. 📷2836024 4/5

Once the war ended, the Amputation Club of British Columbia (now The War Amps) commissioned her to paint the battlefields. Producing some 350 works in three years, she faced harsh conditions and saw the devastation of the conflict first hand. 📷2890448
