Vermont librarian. Technology hobbyist. I love the post office. Fix your hearts. Live in hope if you can.
Yeah my library doesn't keep this information on purpose unless a patron specifically opts IN to having it be kept.

I enjoyed learning about this. I sometimes believe that the tradition and Judaism of leaving a stone on the grave of someone you miss is because you just want to share a cool rock you saw with them. 🪨

I was curious about that too. I'll have to find some reporting about it somewhere else where they talk more about the process.

I both want these people to know how to internet more securely, as a librarian, and then also don't because fuck them.

It's for rapid response iirc. It used to be out front and center on their website and they've made it a little less obvious since I first contacted you.

This is an incredible thing. I think many people in 2025 assume these are digital copies. Nope, they will MAIL YOU THE BOOK and then you can send it back to them, at no cost to you. Truly an amazing resource.

I love those first three books, (and am also an anarchist) and maybe it was just cause I read it too far after the first ones but I was happier with it being a trilogy.

A classic! they said the library was going to be taken over by computers. and 70 years later it still mostly hasn't.

My partner and I talk about this w/r/t 'kikero' (aka Cicero) and I am okay saying it wrong I think.

Oh my gosh what was that movie? I have never seen that before.

Thank you for sharing this. I felt it on the inside as the dark rages outside.

That's a good analogy. Zohran Mamdani won because of tight typeface control... among other things.

That we are snitches! Like the cops will show up at the library and we'd TELL THEM THINGS? How dare you.

Also the white gloves thing, but that's for fancier librarians than me.

It's a slightly edgy take since there is one "mean" librarian (who has her reasons) and then the Parker Posey one who is the fun, hip one but also acts like an entitled brat through a lot of the movie.

Oh how neat. My town used to have a music box museum where many people had worked over the years and you'll sometimes see copper versions of these as decorations on the sides of people's homes.

Hey Peter is my uncle. Happy to know about this project.

I've had tall people watch me climb the shelves to grab something on the top shelf. It is a true thing.

I'm offline enough that I did have to have somebody explain to me who she was, but I read the "early life and education" part of her Wikipedia page and thought she might be a kind of person I was familiar with.

As someone who speaks mod, there was so much that was not sitting right with me about this. Thanks very much for spelling this out.

Frances should lighten up.
