Sally Rooney understands exactly what is required from someone of her profession and social standing in this moment. We've seen so much cowardice from so many quarters in recent times that it's almost a shock to be reminded what a person of conscience acting with true integrity looks like.

I just cried in my office after having another student in here talk about precautions they're taking about their status. I have received calls all week from people who need their names removed off publications or letters I was part of organizing. I feel sick and helpless and so so angry.

One of the deepest shames of this period is how little attention has been paid to the Islamophobia at its heart.
The prayer room at NYU — accessibly only via NYU ID — was vandalized with islamophobic graffiti and prayer mats were reportedly urinated on.

NYU didn’t address the incident for several hours. Elected officials quick to condemn antisemitism have said nothing.
