Many people believe that laws criminalizing same-sex relationships in Tanzania reflect African culture or long-standing tradition. History tells a very different story.

For years, LGBT Voice Tanzania has worked closely with LGBTQ+ individuals across the country. Across regions, identities, and lived realities, one truth has become impossible to ignore: there is no LGBTQ+ person untouched by mental or psychological distress.

This microproject will establish a dedicated Emergency Shelter for LGBT Voice Tanzania. This small, focused effort will directly change the lives of individuals in crisis. It will enable us to create a rapid-response system and a network of safe space. The impact is immediate: providing a secure place to sleep, food, and medical care when it's needed most. This focused initiative will allow us to address a critical, immediate need, which will in turn build a foundation for larger, long-term
