OK, sorry about the long tirade, I was just trying to factually explain official belief; I'm not trying to convert anyone or anything like that.

However, I do acknowledge that a lot of people have used religious teaching/authority to exert power, which has led to long misunderstandings and manipulation both inside and outside the Church, and that anyone teaching from a place of authority or power rather than compassion and humility is sus.

I was always taught about the kindness and humility exemplified by Christ. He spent His time and effort on the lowly and oppressed, and actively rebuked powerful and self-righteous people like the Pharisees. Ultimately, He sacrificed Himself out of love for humanity, rather than judging them.

This isn't how I understand (or was taught to understand) my faith as a Catholic at all. A lot of people, especially charismatic Christians, try to interpret or teach the faith like this - of God as a mighty ruler - but it's not what the Catholic Church overall actually believes.
