Couldn’t say for sure as have no involvement & don’t work in the industry, but my guess is the lower colour line mimics the building height opposite.
It gives a bit of a continuation of the building height line when looking down the street.
And colour tones were picked to complement older buildings:

This would make such a difference to the street scene!
Currently, Hadrian House and its walls and old sky bridge are just awful.

Proposal to demolish Hadrian House and construct a high-quality building to accommodate purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA), improving site permeability and attractiveness through redesigned pedestrian routes, new public realm and active frontages:

Disappointing the Brett Wharf development on Pipewellgate, Gateshead, has seemingly stalled. (1st image of ground prep was Jan 2022).
I’d looked forward to that site being developed for years.

I did think, surely this sculpture of the Tyne Bridge could be better appreciated if placed in one of the city’s public parks or green spaces, rather than on a busy motorway style roundabout. Or is this siting to reduce the chance of vandalism?

Interesting stuff at tonight’s Newcastle Climate Change Forum hosted by Nexus, at The Spark.

Paving to the southern end of Northumberland Street has been completed ahead of the popular Fenwick Christmas Window reveal.
A few squares of tarmac remain where the new Pilgrim Path lighting columns will sit + trees to be planted in the NY so they’ve a better chance of survival.

The finishing touches and surrounding paving are nearing completion at Hotel Gotham, Newcastle, which opens later this month.
Its Fire bar features replica ‘Fire Station’ signage as a nod to the building’s past.

The recently added artwork to the John Dobson Street elevation of Pilgrim’s Quarter features lots of local details & landmarks if you look at it carefully.

‘Stepney Western’ at Byker Station, created by local filmmaker Harry Lawson.

The mural re-imagines the past & present of East Newcastle through its Western-inspired design.

It’s always when I’m climbing Stepney Bank, having eaten too many delicious things in the Ouseburn, that I really wish this imagining of an Ouseburn Metro Station* had been realised. 😅

I do like how the proposed redevelopment of Percy House will create a new wide pedestrian thoroughfare between Strawberry Lane & Percy Street. Especially handy during events & match days.

What caught my eye in the vision docs was the suggestion of a NEW BRIDGE, seemingly at the old Redheugh Bridge abutments, spanning from Forth Yards to Clasper Village where new housing is also planned.
This would encourage more walking & cycling, as the current Redheugh does not.
September 26, 2025 at 5:05 PM
Lack of tram/Metro line aside, it’s extremely positive to read Forth Yards will be a sustainable urban community where pedestrian & cycle movement will be prioritised over private vehicles.
Low levels of car ownership will be encouraged & a bus route will run through the centre.
September 26, 2025 at 5:04 PM
Well it’s going to be fun trying to get off this.
Single-doored buses are awful on busy routes.
