"Trump has said some horribly racist things... But calling him a racist won’t sway anyone into Dems' column; it’s more likely to bring people to his side because they’re sick and tired of hearing about how racist America is"

need a NYT Pitch Bot for columns at any US paper that shouldn't have run

wtf
November 25, 2025 at 1:47 PM
if only that were the only problem! been using that trick all year
November 25, 2025 at 1:42 PM
ahhh posted a few weeks ago seeking analyses of this movie, running to read ty for posting

ironically they also ran a piece 4 days after I pubbed this one, just before the election was called, making this very point!
Zohran Mamdani's Establishment-Fighting Campaign Built Community for Young People
“What Mamdani has done is not only inspire and mobilize young people, but he has exposed the establishment and some of their calcified views of participation and inclusion.”

will make a case to you about this when we meet up this week LOL
November 24, 2025 at 6:01 PM
i'm also assuming you perused the rest of my thread, so i'm wondering if you had thoughts about those points, too

fwiw, discussed this framing w/ the organizers, who agreed

lots of people, including young people, work Saturdays! to reiterate, this wasn't a ding at you/your piece specifically. my issue w/ this framing is I don't think oneoff No Kings rallies are representative of broader protest movements/strategies writ large in 2025. it's one sliver, one strategy
November 24, 2025 at 5:26 PM
okay AND arca!! sickening
November 24, 2025 at 4:48 PM
lol sorry if I was unclear, that aspect was not @ you, that was @ NYT!
November 24, 2025 at 4:07 PM
one thing about me i really will log on and let a new york times headline piss me off
November 24, 2025 at 3:38 PM
i meant to leave character count to say this and to the author's credit he does bring up that point but ... nyt knew what it was doing w this headline lol
November 24, 2025 at 3:35 PM
should've expected the nyt to run that kind of packaging i guess lol. YOUNG PEOPLE LOVE INTERGENERATIONAL WORK!! rip teen vogue politics, i loved getting to profile older organizers and thinkers (judith butler, ruth wilson gilmore) and ask them what they learned from working with young people 😭
November 24, 2025 at 3:34 PM
no exactly i was just mentioning that here! have two 65+ folks in my personal life who are either working full time or part time and that is exactly why they can't always make it out!
exactly AND there are a lot of people in their age cohort who ... are also still working lol and thus maybe not attending No Kings rallies. which i do actually believe to be a genuinely useful locus for further mobilization, but like, cmon
November 24, 2025 at 3:32 PM
like what are we talking about here folks??
30,000 students walk out of North Carolina schools to protest ICE 💙👍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💙👌🏼
