The DSA is also the largest socialist organization in the United States. It is very real and I'm not just saying that cuz I'm a member. If socialism is going to be real in America it is going to come from the DSA and there's no getting around that especially now.

But I think it’s really important to widen the understanding of socialism globally and to separate the ideas of socialism and communism from the specific Soviet Marxist-Leninist model. When people use “communism” to describe what the USSR practiced, it ends up confusing things.

That’s totally fair, especially considering what Germany went through in relation to the Bolsheviks and the Soviet era.
