MOONS, a cutting-edge spectrograph built in Edinburgh, has set off on a transatlantic journey to unlock the secrets of the universe. After more than a decade of innovation and collaboration, MOONS (the Multi-Object Optical and Near-infrared Spectrograph) left from the UK Astronomy Technology Centre (UK ATC) in Edinburgh. This marks the start of a 7,000 mile journey to the European Southern Observatory’s (ESO) Paranal site in Chile.

RNLI crew commended for rescue Three members of the volunteer crew who man North Berwick lifeboat have received letters of commendation for a rescue successfully carried out last year. The crew saved three lives - and the D-class lifeboat SUNIJO was on the scene within six minutes of launching. A family of five had been paddle boarding when strong offshore winds started taking them out to sea.
