Just a fool learning to make art
Worked on a little sketch of my bag today. Struggled mightily but glad I got out there and put something down as it’s been awhile!

I need to focus on measuring more and truly drawing what I see. I’m still sort of just trying to wing it through parts instead of slowing down.

Messing with some grey markers I picked up. Trying to understand shading and colour better.

I know I’m all over the place and need to buckle down on the fundamentals, but these are nice little distractions!

Another daily sketch and playing around with colour, trying to get a grasp on watercolours. This is just printer paper so it’s not great but fun to explore! Landscape from imagination and the tissue box from life. I’m happy with the tissue but lots to improve on with the box.

The book is Ink & Wash Florals, by Camilla Damsbo Brix!

Picked up a book on watercolor florals after countless videos watching @jamesgurneyart.bsky.social use it so beautifully.

I figured florals were a fun way to start (and not so intimidating). Here’s the process from sketch, printer paper, then on water colour paper

Another drawing from life, the old rotting bird house out front. And the quick little landscape drawing with an attempt at a reflection

You can see the line practice mixed in too. I’d like to draw more as I’m not committing enough time and would like to improve faster

Did a sketch from life! I’ve gotta try this more as it was very fun, and gave me lots to learn.

Another sketch where I tried to include a bit more beyond just the rocks. The perspective on the lake/water in the background is very off but I liked how the stone wall turned out.

Tried some work from reference. Choices abound when searching “cool rocks.” Tried out a thumbnail, will work on being lighter and looser as I explore the forms.

Tomorrow I’m going to try some drawing from life and see how that goes!

Last day at the lake and some more rock drawings!

Drew the most used piece cooking equipment at the lake — the flat top!

Gotta work on measuring and not rushing (even if it means waiting to eat the smash burgers)

Tried some more rocks working from a reference. Need to focus on getting my shading more consistent and looking closer at the subject

Here’s some more work with rocks! These are from imagination as I want to get more comfortable drawing in general

My next goal is to focus much more on reference to start to understand better how the world truly looks

Funny how we can spend our whole lives looking around without ever really seeing

Another day of the learning process! Some more basic shapes and scribbles. Struggling to draw solid shadows and contour lines. I think I need to do more from reference less from my mind at this point.

In the top right corner are some faint boulders, which are fun to draw. More tomorrow!

Well, I know this is mostly going out to no one, but I’m going to start documenting my process of learning art

I’m at a starting point of “scared to touch a pencil” and printing so terrible even my trained eye struggles to read it

We’ll start with some spheres, a terrible head, and a wonky car!

Bluesky now has over 10 million users, and I was #5,880,652! Seems like a fun first post.
