#NowPlaying #Jazz 1983 USSR. Back to the Soviet jazz. This is pretty heavy fusion prog leaning stuff. Kinda sounds like a more spaced out Jan Hammer w/ no vocals. Except for last song which gets pretty 80s jazz ballad-y

#jazz #vinyl prob used up my record digging luck for a long time... (not that this record is that crazy expensive but it was way way up there on my want list and Bonner is one of my favorites)

#NowPlaying #Jazz 1985 us reissue. More from Salvation Army Soviet Jazz haul. Guitar led jazz that kinda toes line between Jim Hall conventionality & poor man’s Larry Coryell fusion (not a bad thing!). Pretty nice stuff that goes a bit harder in spots than the reissue cover art

#NowPlaying #jazz 1982 USSR. Ganelin, Cekasin, Tarasov (Ganelin Trio) - Poi Segue. Some Soviet free jazz tonight. Early one from what would eventually be the Ganelin Trio. Live album. 1 long song stretched over 2 sides. Slow build on side 1 then gets looser on side 2

1979 us. Oscar Peterson in electric piano w Joe Pass, NHOP & Louie Bellson. Idk what you’re doing now but you need to listen to the final song Teenager on this album. What a groove!

And here’s what I picked up. A number of these are different pressings of the same album. Love Namyslowski & aware of Ganelin trio but rest completely new to me

Taking a break from posting Pablo records to share on here the most exciting thing that happened to me this week

1982 us. A great Oscar Peterson live trio album. Worth it for the title track specifically which is from a larger suite he never finished. Stunning song. Also has some of the best sounding live bass recording I’ve ever heard. NHOP sounds immense

1975 us. I’ve found that any Joe pass on Pablo is going to be really good. And this is one of the best of the bunch. Pass leads a trio through some Duke Ellington compositions

1982 us. Another Pablo favorite. Group title is misleading as it’s actually a quintet album w additional percussion on a couple tracks. Harold Land is the other horn on the album. 1st song especially would have killed on an early CTI album. What were they thinking w Hubbard’s photo tho!?

1984 us. 2b of favorite Pablo records so far. Not quite sure why this one works so well compared to others he released on pablo w his orchestra but something very classic about the song choices (mostly blues) on this

1974 us. Prob my 2nd favorite of the Pablo albums I’ve picked up. Joe Pass does in fact prove his virtuosity on this album & he would go on to do so 2 more times

1975 us. Restarting some posts here since twitter is getting worse again. Been really into Pablo records recently so going to post some favorites I’ve picked up recently. This has probably been my favorite so far. Amazing piano / bass duet album

#NowPlaying #jazz 1975. Picked this up w/out ever hearing it based on names involved. Opening track has some spoken word poetry & last track closes w the whole group having what sounds like a full on celebration. In between is some great free playing w thundering drums

#vinyl #Jazz couldn’t stay away from a record fair happening yesterday. For some reason all the good deals were Japanese & 70s blue notes that I didn’t have

#vinyl #jazz everything I grabbed in Montreal. Despite what it looks like kept it pretty light. 3 or less records per store & every record under 30 CAD whatever that coverts too. But def wanted to spend a lot more at aux 33 tours tho…

#vinyl #jazz ended up w less time than hoped to record shop in Montreal. Hit up 4 stores but didn’t make it out to a few that were farther from downtown. Cie la vie…(lol). Aux 33 tours was huge highlight should have just started there. Freesons had an ecm section! Rest a bit meh

#NowPlaying #Jazz 1975 Japan Reissue. A Paul Bley classic. Also will be in Paul Bley’s hometown (Montreal) for a couple days if anyone has any record store recommendations there

#Jazz #vinyl Labor Day weekend pick ups. The Stephen McCraven-Sam Rivers album was completely new to me as of a couple weeks ago but got obsessed w it pretty quickly. A local store had a copy & made a couple Discogs sales to be able to afford it

#NowPlaying #Jazz 1979 us. Happy birthday Art Pepper! Very good later career album. Doesn’t quite hit the high point of Today’s Patricia but is a really nice album. Red Mitchell’s bass playing on here especially adds a really nice dark foreboding touch to the ballads

#NowPIaying #jazz 1973 us stereo reissue. Happy birthday Kenny Dorham. An all time great. This is his blue note album I was slowest to come around on oddly. Title track was a little too going for sidewinder and rest never fully clicked. Has now tho. And Hancock on this esp

#NowPlaying #jazz Running thru 3 of the greatest blue note albums this afternoon. Have always viewed these 3 as a trilogy of sorts & finally got a 70s rvg copy of Destination Out to complete it. Some of the best & still most forward sounding jazz that exists

#NowPlaying #jazz 1982 us. Top tier Waldron w an amazing group here. 1st song let’s Jordan go just about hard bop swing mode for a bit & then things get darker & go deep into vintage Waldron territory. McBee is great on here as usual
August 27, 2025 at 5:12 PM
#NowPlaying #Jazz 1979 us. No idea what Farrell/label were thinking w this album cover art. Has a very “hey there fellow kids” feel but album is very good. Farrell stays on tenor sax & Chick Corea joins mostly in non-fusion hard bop mode w a little electric piano mixed in

#NowPlaying #Jazz early 60s stereo reissue. Happy Birthday Wayne Shorter! His very first as leader. Definitely more Coltrane influence sounding than what his later sound and songwriting would be but this is very good hard bop album
