I have imagined a course called ”spring training.“ all springs all the time. robot arms would demonstrate problems with networks of springs.
a sequel called “short circuit” would apply things to electrical circuits. you have to solve the problems in time or a little bomb goes off and splats paint.

just the way we do things now, the determinant doesnt have much of a mnemonic device. it’s kind of like imaginary numbers. you learn them with a promise they’ll be used one day. you should be stumped by a problem and then learn an idea as a tool for that problem.

whenever you post about math it always gets me thinking how I would do things if I designed the whole curriculum.
imo determinants could be introduced with characteristic polynomials. you could’ve already done linear algebra. Now you’d be looking at stability or something.

Im not sure. people do use fireplaces for that, but I think there are a lot of old houses in rural places that never got gas hookups.

I remember staying with my cousin in Tacoma at seeing his oil heat. it seemed barbaric.
someone from east LA visited and asked why I had trap doors in my house. she meant the floor heat vents.
