Joe. When signage is needed in our house, you know who is going to make it. And not with a label maker.

I revelry reworked the copy and keywords and such for The Young Lions, and in addition to my own now 25-year-old memories of reading it, I drew on the Salter intro.

My sense is that The Young Lions is the one that’s held on, with some of his stories also remembered. But Cheever definitely tops him in current presence.

I’ve not read that one. Young Lions has some oddities (in some ways similar to From Here to Eternity, where you feel like trauma and anger are being filtered through some very specific personal quirks), but my memory of it from when I read it 25 years ago is that it’s quite good.

Also: I didn’t know Andrew Scott was in it until he showed up on screen, and I almost exclaimed aloud. His usual awkward, chilly distance is -perfect- for Richard Rodgers.

You note something my friends and I discussed afterwards: maddening as he clearly can be, everyone likes Lorenz Hart in Blue Moon. Even the Sardi’s staff, down to the hat check girl, all of whom must be heartily sick of some aspects of him. But at the same time, no one can really help him.

I have worn this sweater in the photo for the Shintani family holiday card for somewhere around 20 years now.
