This week they did Henry James' THE PORTRAIT OF A LADY, which I never remotely understood till they explained it. Also it saves me the trouble of ever trying to read it again. Recent guests include Joe Hill, Colm Toibin, Jennifer Egan ... it's a wonderful show.

I'm so obsessed with this book, I once tried to chase down the screen rights. But they're bound up with the 1970's movie adaptation (which is good, and got an Oscar nom for Best Adapted Screenplay, but strays from the source material), and no one could figure out who actually owned them.

The protagonist spends half her life in a mental hospital, and the other half in a mythological realm of gods and monsters. The story is her struggle to figure out which of these worlds is real.
