The NVPU, the only union solely dedicated to veterinary support workers, was shut down last month. In my latest, I dig into the reasons why and discuss where the union can go from here:

Really solid analysis here, and it touches on Reese’s statistical improvements that haven’t gotten anywhere near enough credit this season. History will favor Angel Reese.
New from me: Angel Reese told no lies about the sorry state of the Chicago Sky

Jeff Pagliocca committed organizational malpractice with his roster decisions. He needs to be fired. Reese just said what anyone paying attention already knew.

Think the WNBA isn't profitable?

The NBA has said this about the NBA for more than 50 years.

And more than 50 years ago, two economists got the NBA's financial statements and found the NBA wasn't exactly telling the whole story.

One thing that is super discouraging about being a freelance sports writer in the digital age is all the punching down from big figures in the industry that takes place online. If/when I get my dream job in sports media, I can’t imagine I’d be wasting my time picking on freelancers for likes.

My latest for @awfulannouncing.bsky.social (if you care to read past the headline) discusses Paige Bueckers’ and other players’ phenomenal seasons in the WNBA in spite of the lack of WNBA coverage this season. Also the fact that the W is thriving on scraps this year and why it deserves better:

Not trying to throw anyone in particular under the bus with my writing! I’m honestly doing my best to contribute coverage to a league I love that I see receive constant disrespect in the form of a lack of media coverage as a whole. Not an individual problem, but a systemic one.
Are you asking this question so you can throw journalists who answer it for you under the bus? Or is there some other grift at play with this obvious ass question?

I’m late to posting this, but last month, I got to speak to Dr. Ewan Wolff about Pride VMC’s Gender Identity Bill of Rights (GIBOR). Incredibly useful resource for fostering a safe, respectful working environment both inside and outside vet med!

“If college athletes like Canady are both performing athletic labor on the field and supplying visibility and prestige that athletics workers are paid for off the field, why shouldn’t they be compensated (and legally recognized) as such?“

I had the pleasure of reading Dr. Tracie Canada’s new book Tackling the Everyday: Race and Nation in Big-Time College Football, which discusses the role that Black football mothers play in the lives of their sons and the CFB industry for my latest for @mattbrown.bsky.social.

Check out my review! 👇
NEW EXTRA POINTS:

@leverfever.bsky.social has convinced me. I need to grab a copy of @traciecanada.bsky.social's book. I don't think I've read of anybody talk about CFB athlete well-being from a *black mother* perspective

“Of course, another way to increase the reach and access of college gymnastics is so simple, it shouldn’t need to be mentioned: put women’s sports on TV and people will watch.”

Duke WBB just won the ACC Championship for the first time in 12 years with two Pat Summitt alums on the coaching staff: Kara Lawson and Kyra Elzy.

Love this for both coaches: Lawson who won her 1st title in her 5th year at Duke and Elzy who coached at UK last season.

Tremendous read here.
Coverage of women’s college basketball surged during Caitlin Clark’s historic Iowa career, and sports media seemed ready to finally give the sport the fanfare it deserves. But the lack of hype for JuJu Watkins this season tells another story.
