After years of threatening to, the Poles have finally taken over Britain (it’s THE Christmas film over there).

Everyone remembers the disappointment when you got the onion one when you were looking forward to a mouth full of butter. The good old days.

I say that but the cat was very insistent I needed to play with her favourite toy (a tiny piece of plastic from a soap dispenser to stop the plunger from dispensing in transit, naturally). So didn’t even see half the football. Still stinking though.

I was all set to like this until I got to the second sentence and then it just felt very wrong.

God the noise! Slept so much better when they moved on to somewhere else the next year.

Yeah but the cuteness (until they start caterwauling for hours every night)!

I for one, hope they keep this up, incredible entertainment as a neutral.

Had a den at the end of the garden of a former rental place, would see them curled up asleep on the grass. Was stupidly cute. But any ideas about befriending them go out the window as soon as you hear them shagging and you just want them as far away from you as possible. Such a racket.

There was a wonderful documentary on BBC2 (from 13-14 years ago it turns out) last weekend which was literally just an hour of a man talking about and spending time with turkeys. Not much happened but I was engrossed because it was precisely the opposite of that: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b...

Yeah like it was seen as significant and horrific at the time (or at least that’s my memory of it, but also I was a kid and I hadn’t seen a war happen before), but the more that came out about it over the years made it even more so.

Think it must have been the war in Yugoslavia when Sarajevo was under siege. Had a general awareness of the collapse of communism (as you’d expect with my name), and like you, the Troubles, but nothing really concrete and specific with those.

Win or lose, always aim to go out in a blaze of glory (or the opposite of glory).

You either need to win or be so bad at it that people remember you. Mate of mine went on Pointless and has been dining out on getting 200 points in the first round ever since. Even got invited back but couldn’t make the dates work.

Tell that to someone who has to trade their castle for a lowly mansion. Oh the horror.

I love the title, will give it a listen.

A stunner

Oh if I’d had one of them near me when I was a kid I’d have bought so much tat.

I’m in for an absolute treat!

Still need to do my annual festive trip to The Range to marvel at the Christmas-themed horrors they have for sale before just buying some sandpaper or something instead. Looking forward to it.

Soup is a tricky one logistically, but you can always go the Polish route and serve it inside hollowed out bread. Kind of counts.
