Quilter. Love live performances (theatre, music, dance, etc.) and history. Mom to an old border collie cross who enjoys adding dog hair to every thing I sew. Retired Social Worker; Social Justice advocate. Canadian.
My WIP Wednesday included hand-sewing in some more blocks to my Grandmother’s Flower Garden top. I’m slowly getting there - photo of pattern shows areas circled in yellow I still have to go.

After more shovelling (winds created new drifts), I completed the 4th of 4 Netting blocks. To be honest, this block was a bit finicky, in no small part because the light fabric was directional. This made having all the ships upright on the half-square triangles challenging.

OK, back to my ‘happy place’ and working on the fourth (of 4) Netting block. Played Bobbin Chicken with disappointing results. Oh well, ‘onward we sew’!

Listening to Charlie after digging out from the latest round of snow, and trying to come to terms of yesterday’s White House shameful display by Putin’s assets.
I am trying to dig out from another massive winter storm. The wind is bitter this morning.
This is the time of year in the north when spring seems so far away.
Here is a song I wrote for my band Grievous Angels. grievousangels2.bandcamp.com/album/the-gr...

No, the meeting did not go badly for Ukraine. It exposed in the most undeniable, unequivocal way possible the pro-Putin commitments of the president and vice president. That was information Americans and allies needed to have clear before them.

Working on a group project with 3 friends. Pattern is 24-block ‘Spoondrift’ pattern by Janet Clare. We have been assigned 6 blocks each, and will sew 4 of each, and when finished will swap blocks with each other. Pic below is one of my assigned blocks, ‘Netting’.

Finished up BOM Month Two. I now have 4 completed 6.5 x 6.5 (ish) square-in-a-square variation blocks. I’m looking forward to seeing what Month 3 brings.

Well said, Charlie
Here's my latest reflection on a lesson I learned from a woman who was in the second tower on 9/11.
When the world is turned upside down taking action is the only way to survive.
Our democracy is under threat but politicians are still living in 2024.

On the streets of Brussels I encountered numerous little plaques in front of doorways. They commemorate the Jewish families who were taken from their homes and murdered by Nazis.

Two back-to-back snow storms hitting us this weekend. The first one stopped this morning and I have just finished shovelling. Time for some nice, relaxing quilting. The next storm has just started.

Bruce nails it again.
Bruce MacKinnon, the editorial cartoonist at the Halifax Chronicle-Herald, drew this last November.

No newspaper would print it.

It now deserves an outing.

Took down my Christmas quilt and put up this Drunkard’s Path quilt. Machine-pieced and quilted. 18 different batiks were cut into 1.5” strips, strips sewn together (light to dark). I then used the two drunkard’s path templates to cut out block pieces. Some parts only use one fabric. #quiltsky

After taking a 2 week break from quilting to deal with a family matter, I went to my Monday hand sewing group today - first of 2025! It was great to work on my Grandmother’s Flower quilt, and spend some quality sewing and social time with other hand sewers.

Happy Winter Solstice. I hope everyone makes the most of this short day. It is bright and cold in my neighbourhood - a good day for short dog walks and time inside sewing.
Looking forward to the returning light during this darkest day. Have a joyful winter solstice!
