Calling me transgender is technically correct, and this has been true from the moment I was born. However, it places the emphasis on my past body/mind misalignment, and neglects the fact that this is mostly a solved issue for me. The term transsexual is both precise and informative. It makes clear both who I am and the actions I take to live with dignity. I aspired to change my sex the moment I learned it was possible. I became a practicing transsexual the moment I put my first pill under my tongue. I am transgender; but more precisely, I am transsexual. Both terms describe me, but transsexual fits better. So that is what I call myself. If you are unsure what to call yourself, ask what is more important to you: the fact of your body and mind being out of alignment (either currently or in the past), or the fact that you are making active steps to fix this misalignment? Which fact do you want to have emphasized?

I think I saw the article you're talking about and it's like... there wasn't a values judgement to different experiences of being trans.

It was about, afaik, like, different experiences being worthy of precise language.

3” Liberated Me “Fuck.” I really don’t want to go to jail. My recently-repaired 2011 Ford Escape isn’t starting. I am in a very expensive parking lot downtown, and I’m almost out of time before I have to pay with no money in the bank. My rig has rusted fenders, but has otherwise been dependable since I purchased it about 6 months ago. The culprit? The thing I just fixed- the starting circuit-relay wasn’t properly connected to the ignition wiring harness. “Why did I do this to myself?”, I ask, and nobody but me could possibly answer. And, no one did. So, there I am, with the clock ticking. I’m in the middle of downtown Denver and stuck with a disabled car. Luckily, I have most of my tools with me. “Most” being the operative term. I don’t have my set of wire spools, my heat shrink gun, or my better wire strippers- I left all of those at the makerspace, which isn’t that far- it’s a 10 minute drive from where I currently am, but calling a tow truck isn’t an option. I decide to do the only thing I can do- attempt a repair from the parking lot. The problem?

Women’s studies was supposed to undermine patriarchal social order and provide women with language, resources, and knowledge to fight back. For that intention, it was murdered. In the rotting corpse of women’s studies departments across the country, there are “gender and women’s” or sometimes “women’s and gender” studies departments- shambling around in the place carved out for feminist academia. This rotting zombified flesh carries the face of women’s studies and the corpse of feminism. The dark power animating it isn’t magic, but patriarchy. The knowledge produced therein is infectious and toxic, and it obfuscates its toxcity by legitimizing patriarchal discourses that paint trans women as infectious. The crimes of gender studies are both the further marginalization of trans women and the blaming of trans women for their marginalization. If gender studies could look in a mirror, it would see the face of feminism- rotted, cracked. If it could look in a full-body mirror, it would see that it is, in fact, a patriarchal puppet. Good thing, then, that social structures and institutions can’t be forced to look in a mirror like regular humans can!
