I think unfortunately we are all out of the 'habit' but at least some of us used to do this more often in the past and maybe can access it again. But I worry about the ones who believe answers and ideas only exist following a prompt, because believing it is so makes it true.

I think giving them pen and paper and asking them to think for 10 minutes is a pretty good approach to be honest. Did you have a conversation afterwards about how it felt, whether it was strange for them, did ideas start to flow after a while?
