Thank you for all the lovely #Lovetember prompts throughout the month! Gotta go with Fault Lines for this one.

From the prologue—this is the moment that starts it all, the moment they both fall.

He straightened, sniffed. "Thank you. Then..." with a deep breath, he backed towards the doorway, "I'll see you soon.”

The second book of Deuceridge’s duology starts right around New Years, 1931. There’s even a proper gangster party to mark the occasion.

Kade can usually take or leave food, but El’sian Bay has some truly delicious offerings.

That cards could tell fortunes?”  “Tarot, maybe,” Kade said, curiously scooping up a bit of the cream sauce that the shrimp had come with. “Never thought to do it with the type I work with.”  “Because there’s no real way to cheat at fortune-telling?”

This whole process continues to feel like a slow crawl, but the little moments of discovery—or rediscovery—are glimmers of joy throughout! It’ll be well worth it.

Also, the rain is IDEAL Fault Lines atmosphere, so the weather for the last few days has been great motivation 🌧️

"If there were enough water in the whole of Aboveground for that to happen," Mara said, "we wouldn't need the Lines."

In Fault Lines, Caleb WAS going to die early—young me thought that tragedy was the epitome of good literature.

They get their happy ending. Maybe not perfectly, certainly not like they planned, but inseparable and in love 💕
Caleb and Sachial—Sachial is in Caleb’s arms, and they both hold a banner that says, in rainbow lettering, “Unbury your gays”. They’re both smiling, Sachial a bit more maniacally than Caleb. Both have small rainbows painted on their cheeks. Sachial wears a cropped black hoodie with the anarchist symbol (the circled A) in red. Fault Lines is the first book I ever finished. I started it in 2014; the first complete draft is dated 01/2017! I’m now 25k words into a full rewrite, due to both plot revisions and general improvement on my part. It’s near and dear to me, and I’m thrilled with how it’s coming along!

Conrad had enough self-awareness to recognize the entitlement that fueled his profound annoyance, but lacked any motivation to temper it. He had been—still was, by all but proximity—an adopted son of the Ward family, one of the oldest names in crime on the East coast. The fact that he didn't flaunt that—in deference to El'sian's pastoral sensibilities—hardly excused the incompetent barber for not behaving accordingly.
