I think best with imagery, so any model that sparks a link with scriptural metaphors works for me. It’s well worth getting conversant with the model that you work best with, because with practice you can reflect helpfully on the spot, eg while a tricky exchange/sitch is underway. A v useful skill.

Maybe a theatre token, so they can plan an outing with a friend or spouse

I’ve been listening to Godspell a fair bit recently. Yr A being Matthew year, but also plain old nostalgia. I’d love to see a production of it - never have, and I’ve only seen bits of the film.

Ours was a private visit to a friend as I recall.

Yes. I think that Electro Convulsive therapy was already distrusted/discredited (from what I remember about my mum’s reactions and comments), but it was all v much hidden away, and the gen pub was allowed to put them all out of mind. Still in touch with one of my sister’s friends who lived there.

2/2 I went with my mum to visit someone there. I wasn’t old enough to understand why people were making funny noises or looking unkempt or gloomy. But I could see they were sad, & my impression was that Netherne wasn’t somewhere that would cheer you up. I’ve never forgotten it - very institutional.

In the 60s/70s I grew up in Redhill, near Netherne. It was a by-word for deprivation of liberty for people who were both poorly and embarrassing. My older sister had 2 friends who were there in their adolescence/20s and as a young child I detected the associated shame from hushed conversations. 1/2

This is great work, well done! I downloaded a sample - Advent 3. Curious that there’s a difference between the congregation’s response melody and the one on the cantor’s sheet 🤔 (ie. where the bar lines fall). Just thought I’d mention that in case it’s not deliberate. A kindness not criticism 👍

It’s Advent Sunday and also Advent 1. Four Sundays in Advent: patriarchs; prophets; John the Baptist (Gaudete); Mary. Light the first candle in your Advent wreath

The central part of Horsham is the Carfax so the local celebrity fox is known as the Carfox. Ain’t she a beaut?

So, if I wasn’t vulnerable BEFORE it happened, I am now. Does that count?
