They are running for the same office--US Senator representing Texas. Whichever wins will likely face incumbent John Cornyn (or, heaven forbid, Ken Paxton, who as current Texas Sec of State has the responsibility of counting the votes).

Precisely my point. Two powerful voices vying for the same position. Only one can achieve it. The other voice is out of representative government until the next election.
