We had 2 interviews with the BBC about them! It's to allow people to post parcels from postboxes. Letters go in as normal.

Theres a couple of candidates, but I will need to keep investigating! Fun fact - 2 of the original locations still have a box in the exact same spot: High Street/South Bridge (near Tron Church) and Howe Street/Northumberland Street

I have found using the old Post Office directories that by May 1857 there were 13 boxes installed in Edinburgh. The original 11, plus 1 in Leith and 1 at the Railway Termini on Waverley Bridge.
