I’ll use this before going in a ring for Obed/rally, and a modified one for agility. also nice for delays in the ring or just needing to talk without getting the dog out of work mode. Going from full off-duty to ON can be a big ask for our non workaholic dogs!

Fronts are a great small space option!

I have faith that your dog can get it better than Freya. Commit to a month of improving a skill that shows up multiple times on every rally course. #dogtraining #dogsport #cattraining

Starting box feeding with Raviol to learn a “sticky target”
The lowered head is also my prerequisite for the skill of “cleanup” or put the thing in the thing. I want the dog targeting the bucket and not flinging

Trying to post something happy.

So here is Ginny with a pop stand on recall. She wants to pop about 6 feet forward! I’m using a target not to help her respond to my cue, but to try and get her to pop more up and not so much flight!

Working fronts and struggling to fade a platform? I struggle with that too!
I teach pivots in front bc it transfers so easily from a perch to none.
I talk about front pivots in my novice class! Working spots still available, and we can look at your heel work too

More work on listening to his cues with a toy reward! It’s so hard to think when it’s right there.

And trying to help Ravi with his dumbbell feelings by using a toy reward. This is harder to think, but he’s certainly more excited! #Dogsports #obediencedog #dogtraining #sighthound

Starting a go out with Ravi and scared him with my reward placement!

I did not expect this to be hard as Ravi does so much with front and rear foot targets, but this was! I don’t think he knew what to do with the perch as an option for his rear feet!

Working with the reward placed on the ground is so hard! It’s pressure!! Ravioli is still working on processing what I’m saying even if he’s, usually, pretty good at not stealing the cookies!

Practicing leash removals and moving away from the reward with Ginny. This is a pretty simple, but not easy, skill for the ring in both obedience and agility!

Ravioli’s energy track for heeling is starting to get there! Heeling can be fun!
Ravi has a lot of precision skills at a slow pace, but I’m not yet ready to combine that with this energy track. I talk a lot about trying to get that balance in my novice class!

Pivots are the core of front work just like they’re the core of heeling! I don’t know how I would teach my dog how to line up with me if I couldn’t pivot away to communicate which way their butt needs to go!

Join me in February if you want some help, or just get started! #dogsports #dogtraining

Working on the left about turn with Ginny as she has gone around the sign several time in a trial. here I’m using something more tempting than a sign – a target!
My cues do look similar, and it doesn’t help that we’ve been working a lot of sends for her threadle wrap and sit!

Front pivots are a huge part of teaching my dog that front is a specific position to line up to, not just sit close.

I start to pivot away from Ravi before he stops moving in order to proactively prevent a mistake.

Start thinking about my novice class for Feb!

Setting up with the toy on the ground wasn’t quite ready, but great with the perch help!

Toy skills!! I want the ability to easily line him up with a toy in the same way that I can use a cookie magnet with food.

This is helpful for both Agility as well as obedience! Then I want default stillness so he’s not just sending out ahead to the obstacle he thinks is next! #agility #dogsports

Ring entrance games! I want the dog to be excited to enter and to turn to me rights after the entry.
This starts with my rewards! #dogsports #agility

Freya! Working on some transitions and setups! #cattraining #dogsports #dogtraining

Preparing for rally! The send to cone and sit already had the foundations in place, but I haven’t asked Ginny to turn away from me on a cone send before. Glad it went smoothly!
This is easier to get into heel than if she wrapped clockwise and sat next to the cone.

Working on Ravi‘s ability to go from a stand to a sit without dropping the dumbbell #dogsports

I don’t need my dogs to be able to backup far, but I do need a backup when they’re across the ring from me. I mainly use this for distance work in obedience such as before and after position changes, drop on recall, even start lines.

Ginny sat before her backup in heel at the last rally trial. So I’m working on a stand in motion before the backup. She has a moving stand but I almost always do her “pop” and that’s not very conducive to this backup exercise!

Reset practice!! Have a plan for what you’re going to do in the ring if things go wrong.
In rally you can redo a sign if the dog didn’t get it right, or if they need focus help.

Make sure your dog is used to how you’re going to reset so they don’t think they’re wrong! #dogtraining #dogsports
