machine learning is feminist

You only have to look at the Medusa straight on to see her. And she’s not deadly. She’s beautiful and she’s laughing.

Maybe @cihantugal.bsky.social , you have some insight into why it was originally translated as intercourse, and if there are different, relevant translations?

(Much of my understanding of Marx comes from you so I'm curious, but I don't mean to compel you to weigh in)

What do we think? Here's one passage. (That chapter alone uses the word "intercourse" 40 times.)

In any case, it's translated as "intercourse" in The German Ideology, so that's what students are reading

I think Marx means economic, social, and cultural exchange between people, classes, and nations (etc.). What network scientists would call "ties". Exchange might work, but it's not exactly right. Association?

traffic, circulation, contact, intercourse

It's a word of many meanings. I don't think intercourse conveys what Marx was trying to say tho.

That was one of the first "clever" assignments faculty came up with when ChatGPT dropped. It wasn't a good assignment then, it's not a good assignment now.

(No regrets about assigning the German Ideology though - that magnificent beast)

Absolutely no chance I can join a meeting at 6pm, even once a month. Childcare, folks. Childcare.

In my field (sociology) the paper-killer term is "not novel". "There's nothing novel here, don't publish." I actually prefer incremental to novel because what does novelty even mean?
