I think there's an element of sunk cost fallacy.

Like, things have been shit for so long everyone assumes there must be a good reason for it, so it follows anyone saying things don't have to be shit is stupid.

Gonna be fun watching them backtrack on the comparisons and insist you're not like him actually when New York doesn't implode.

If they were smarter they should be lying to make the judge look biased against them, to make it easier to get a mob crying foul later 2/2
November 14, 2025 at 9:40 AM
I was thinking about some of the examples you gave of them getting the judge wrong and honestly I wonder if they're shooting themselves in the foot (again).

If they make it sound like the judge was biased in their favour it'll make it harder to be indignant when they don't get what they want 1/2

That, or Faulkner's realised her last hurrah is going to fail and wants to put on a show so she can play martyr

But surely by that logic gendering toilets at all shouldn't be allowed?
November 14, 2025 at 12:13 AM
I had a friend try to go to the local paper with a shitty landlord issue.

If a cis person did this people would be sympathetic, but they just got a comment section full of abuse about their appearance in the photo.

Frankly I suspect the paper expected that and wanted the engagement.

They changed the recipe for the filling; definitely not as good now

Funnily enough, virtue signalling; who's wearing what poppy has become a way for them to justify harassing people while acting morally superior.

Actual remembrance shouldn't be reduced to a ritual we go through the motions of.

ISTG every time I have this argument they always think it's about trans women.

Its a mix of being incapable of gendering trans people correctly and believing that trans women are extremely delusional.

Huge tell that someone is just parroting talking points without trying to understand.

"Escapes" feels appropriate

While we're at it merge Virginia and West Virginia, but call the whole thing East Virginia to really confuse people.
November 5, 2025 at 12:42 PM
The people making them and saying "I made this to dispense information; listen to the things it says" surely must bear some responsibility.

With grok we've seen Musk promise to "fix" it whenever it isn't being bigoted enough. Some LLMs do say messed up shit randomly, with grok it was made that way.

If the EHRC were smart they would've taken their time and picked some specific targets; if they'd done that they'd've gotten some of their nastiness through and the government could shift responsibility onto them.

Falkner going for the speedrun before she leaves office has blown the whole scheme.
November 4, 2025 at 10:43 AM
Yeah, the current system is borked because they're basing the print runs on the demand when it was print to order.

Meaning scalpers can buy SLs knowing they've directly deprived someone who wanted it, thereby driving their own demand.

Yeah, human rights that are conditional on being liked aren't worth anything because being liked tends to preclude having them violated anyway.

It does get frustrating that when a rich person comes out they kinda become the de-facto spokesperson for a while even though their lived experience is vastly different from most of us.
October 30, 2025 at 1:38 PM
Yeah, I'm getting real tired of this weird holier than thou act they're doing.

The "green party aren't left wing enough" thing comes across really laughable when trans people keep getting told "we've not decided our policies yet" and they're apparently fine with bigots and landlords at the top.
October 29, 2025 at 1:07 PM
Then watch them implode when half the party leadership don't like the answer.
October 29, 2025 at 12:47 PM
TBF I think a lot of us were just expecting them to try to sneak a few things in under the radar but be reluctant to go all out; so shit, but not as bad as the alternatives (y'know, labour's whole thing). But then FWS happened and its like the dominos started to fall.

I think Ludwig had a good balance on this; the actual murder solving was just David Mitchell cosily doing puzzles. Contrasts nicely with the big conspiracy happening in the background.

(As a side note, I also think a lot of murder mystery fiction is itself a cozy escape from a reality where ACAB)
October 27, 2025 at 12:57 PM
I'm noticing that the YP fanatics seem to oscillate between "we're the leftest it's possible to be" and "we haven't decided our policies yet" depending on what's most convenient in the moment.

Yeah, as the series goes on the boundaries of what Skippy can do get better defined and
then it becomes more about the humans having to find creative applications of his abilities to solve problems.
October 26, 2025 at 5:08 PM
Maybe the Expeditionary Force series? The main character basically acts as "idea guy" for an AI that's really powerful but can't think creatively and has restrictions against acting alone.

Somewhat comedic and not exactly high art but they're fun and the audiobooks are well made.

Every time they get a win they just get more perplexed and annoyed that the people who disagree with them don't just immediately disappear.
