That trapdoor makes it so easy to get the cartridge transmission out. It's a shame they changed it when they went to the rubber mount engines in '04.

In '71, when I was 18, a motorcycle mechanic screwed me pretty good. I vowed it would never happen again. Hung around and lived with bikers who were wrenches, learning, for most of my early 20's. The only time I've been back to a shop for motorcycle work is for a new bike under warranty.

A good rider can make a crappy handling bike look good. Years ago there was a video of Keith Code on a Honda Goldwing, with a passenger, lapping other riders on the track.

If your fuel filter is in the tank, like other BMWs, removing the gas cap assembly allows access to replace it.
