Since 2017 a contract for a series of Type 26 Frigates at the @BAESystemsplc Govan yard, has kept 1000s of workers busy. I have been on site regularly and have captured an incredible shift from assembling vessels on slipways to working in vast covered halls @scottishgallery

At Govan 100s of steel units were welded together into vast blocks, measuring 7 decks in height. These segments were then shipped from the Clyde to the Firth of Forth where the 2 carriers were assembled in a huge drydock at Rosyth @babcockinternationalgroup #fromtheforesttotheforge @scottishgallery

On my first painting day at Govan the @royalnavy Type 45 destroyer @hms.duncan was nearing completion on the slipway. She was one of the last vessels ever to be launched into the Clyde using the traditional 'dynamic' launch process #fromtheforesttotheforge @scottishgallery

Industry and nature are often presented as being in perennial conflict. But as an artist I find both subjects equally compelling. Britain’s natural and industrial landscapes are interdependent; they affect and influence one another #fromtheforesttotheforge @scottishgallery-22 Nov

Over the last decade I was able to document the resilience of @LibertySteelGrp

Since 2017 a contract for a series of Type 26 Frigates at the Govan yard has kept thousands of workers busy. In my drawings I’ve been able to capture an incredible change in Clydebuilt shipbuilding which I’ll describe in my talk online tonight Wednesday 12th Nov 6pm. @scottishgallery

I think the tools of industry have a particular beauty.  In these still lives I have tried to curate arrangements that feature the sorts of implements I use every day in my painting studio, alongside the vices, spanners and drills I often come across in the yards. @scottishgallery

My visit to @tatasteeluk Port Talbot blast furnaces in 2017 was awe-inspiring. Clothed in layers of protective equipment I was allowed to watch as giant ladles were manoeuvred into position before being tipped over, pouring molten steel into the furnaces @scottishgallery

Growing up in Glasgow I often heard my father describe the days when the Clyde bustled with shipbuilding but by the 80s the River was silent. So I began to draw the archaeology of a dying industrial landscape @scottishgallery #fromtheforesttotheforge 30 Oct-22 Nov
