Alastor is VERY childish in his sociopath mentality. He refuses to change and he seems to also refuse to acknowledge it happening to others. To him this game with Vox is probably the closest he can come to spending time with him like they did when they were friends. It means a similar weight to him.

Which is why I think, should Vox grow from season 2 and finally realize that Alastor is destructive for him and that he needs to STOP giving a shit about him... Alastor would not accept it. Vox attention has always been on him, why would any of that change? Vox doesn't break like others do!

Classic "you never know what you had until you lose it" for Alastor. I personally don't think Al would take it well. He would never accept that he is toxic for Vox. He would victim-blame, throw tantrums and think others are interfering. He could never face having been the one in the wrong.
