Then a year or so ago a good friend showed off her brand new Kobo Libra Color -- still e-ink, easily annotatable, seems to work like a dream, really nice size, still nice frontlighting. I have wanted so badly to upgrade, but I can't justify it to myself when I have a working device.

... and quite disappointed to find it had not. My 2022 Kobo is identical to my . . . 2017? . . . one. It's fine. Frontlighting is good. Can't wirelessly sideload. Perfunctory internet browser is terrible.

Touchscreen adequate to flip pages but adding notes can take several tries.

I'm a big fan of dedicated e-ink readers. My current Kobo is my second Kobo, after having had a couple of Nooks first. I was happy with my first Kobo for several years, until it finally died around summer of 2022. I was excited to see how the state of the art had progressed since my first Kobo...

* In case you haven't been paying attention, my writing career has literally never been better, so it was strange and disconnected from reality for him to assume I could only object out of personal fear for my artistic future.

Anybody who is like “Piracy is activism!”—trust me, supporting your local library is about 1000% more effective activism, and it’s still free for you and authors still get paid!

Sometimes I do throw something in a cold oven and heat the food as the oven heats, so I'm unconvinced by the argument that it was redundant.

If I could learn new lessons without forgetting old ones, I'd probably be a pretty formidable writer. 😉

I have coincidentally been reading a lot of stories set in magical touring shows, like THE NIGHT CIRCUS and THE FIRST BRIGHT THING, and this fit right into the vibe.
