Then a year or so ago a good friend showed off her brand new Kobo Libra Color -- still e-ink, easily annotatable, seems to work like a dream, really nice size, still nice frontlighting. I have wanted so badly to upgrade, but I can't justify it to myself when I have a working device.

... and quite disappointed to find it had not. My 2022 Kobo is identical to my . . . 2017? . . . one. It's fine. Frontlighting is good. Can't wirelessly sideload. Perfunctory internet browser is terrible.
Touchscreen adequate to flip pages but adding notes can take several tries.
