Behold our glorious cover art!

"Keeping Contact: Jewish Cultural Initiatives across Cold War Borders"

Eds. @rkpejsova.bsky.social & @labendz.bsky.social (Purdue '26).

Moshe Peter Shamah created this original artwork. The volume derived from two symposia, the last held at @chgs-ramapo.bsky.social.

It’s bad enough to retain a stereotypical image of an Indian head—from the wrong region—in our town seal. It’s quite another to make doormats featuring the seal, upon which the polite thing to do, apparently, is to wipe your muddy shoes. Get it together, Towaco.

The beef jerky hung like this, partially vended, for two full days. Why didn’t someone body-check the machine to get some free food?

I thought that, just maybe, the alright kids have soured on meat… not so fast…

There are cameras everywhere, and with surveillance fear… and a loss of simple joys.

To the best of my knowledge, a high-level Putin ally created or commissioned this 9/11 Memorial in Bayonne, NJ.

This was in an ADL email today. I’m not interested (here) in debating allegations of antisemitism and responses thereto.

This is an irresponsible use of AI, especially at an institution with experts who can lead as humans.

I teach “bridging the gaps” methodologies at Ramapo. AI can’t do this! Stop

This just came in the mail. It rounds out my collection of Terezín/Theresienstadt stamps. It was produced and sold—as a collectors’ item/propaganda—during the German occupation of Bohemia and Moravia.

Do yourself a favor and order a stamp. Collectors send them on envelopes with tons of cool ones.

How is it that god was in this place and I did not know?

Bought myself a birthday present... I have a side-project researching the circulation of particular stamps and their culture resonance. Most have to do with Terezín... I buy the stamps I write about. Won this stamp from the Nazi Protectorate today.

I also received a letter from Chaim Weitzmann in 1903, when I was living in Geneva.

My 12-year-old dog takes an mRNA treatment for arthritis. Within a couple of days, she has much more mobility and confidence.

We could have this for people who suffer similarly… but why not try eugenics first?

Charlie just can’t believe how “silly” fascists are. (12-year-olds can’t swear.)

Kenneth Marcus adapting some of the regime’s cruelest anti-immigrant language to commend Colombia’s adoption of the IHRA definition and the potential—in this case voice by Marianne Hirsch—that faculty will have to resign or omit important discussions in the classroom.

This is no different from the abhorrent white nationalist refrain: “The Holocaust never happened, but it should have.”

We’re seldom in Salem. What a treat to find actual Czech-style nakládaný hermelín in the menu. I prefer it a bit spicier. Could have used more time in the mix with additional bay leaves and allspice, but this was legit and good. Well done, Gulu Gulu!
