Literally what is the alternative though? Windows is worse and macOS only runs on about 4 different machines and you can't play games.

I don't think suggesting any normal person try arch is gonna help us win hearts and minds, friend. (don't disagree tho)
I got my uncle on kubuntu (cause I'm a kde stan) and the only time he's ever wanted help is doing a major version upgrade, which I was able to help him through over the phone.

People say this like windows isn't just as shit. Like I do get the sentiment but in my experience when I have an issue on Linux, I Google "how to fix..." and find an answer, but when I'm looking for a fix on windows I find other people talking about having the same issue and hoping Microsoft fix it.

My point was that in 99.9% of cases you'd just plug the printer in and it'd work with no additional steps. I fully acknowledge I worded it in a bit of a weird way. In my defence though there are other people in replies talking about like "bonjour" protocol and shit so I thought that was the vibe lol

It's a useful skill to understand how computers work, it can be fun too if you're that way inclined. Surely that's worth the time investment? Idk.

On most regular distros, cups would have come pre-installed. It's not the 00s.
