"Use after free" is an easy way to remember It's a good practice to always call "free" before dereferencing a pointer.

Some people call `free` twice to make sure that it has applied (the so-called "double free"), but most of the time it's an unnecessary optimization.

So far I've only heard people say monads are useful and powerful, and your post made me realize you can shoot yourself in the foot with them (which strengthens my belief that everything has tradeoffs).
