Idk it’s just a really interesting and tbh refreshing writing choice to just decide to completely forgo what is the most common (and tbh boring lmao) way to confirm a romance and still have explicit romances

which are made all the more ambiguous because we don’t have those Big Kiss moments. And that’s also kind of fun, because if the show doesn’t tell you, you get to decide what these vague relationships are because all you know for sure is that these characters are important to each other.

Which imo is good writing (there’s a tumblr post I remember about how a good romance makes it clear that this is a Romance even before you get to The Kiss, or if you don’t at all) but it is a really fascinating choice to go all in on that, given the series’ length and that there’s 4 on screen

The Big Kiss isn’t needed because you can tell this is a romance without it. The levels of intimacy within the show are so much deeper than just a kiss – you don’t need a Big Kiss moment because we’re already 7 layers further in terms of how much the characters mean to each other

But also from a larger perspective, that’s a really interesting writing choice given that popular perception in media is kiss = romance confirmation and often final culmination. Fafner shows intimacy and romance in other ways, both with touch and verbal affection, and through more subtle means.

early on that a kiss isn’t how it’s going to communicate its romances to you as the viewer, therefore the fact that they don’t kiss isn’t a valid argument against viewing the relationship as a romance because that would invalidate literally every romance in the show

‘oh it’s not gay, they didn’t kiss’ when even the straight people don’t kiss. The weird intimacy Soushi and Kazuki have isn’t a replacement for a Big Kiss moment that the other couples have because the other couples don’t have that either, yet it’s still clear they’re couples. The show establishes
