Maybe you're right, but it is a marked change. I got my start refining database software in a warehouse as a warehouse worker, moved on to contract work, moved to silicon valley five years later. There was room for the self-taught, and the tide of "learn to code" CS grads erased it.

I am legitimately thrilled. I thought political violence would win, that malfeasance and bad faith governance would win, that the cities would be further disenfranchised, again. But no! Even if this wasn't some line in the sand, I'll be grateful for every eddy against the riptide.

It feels significantly worse than misfortune, it feels like conspiracy engaging with rare opportunity, that our tech for faking video is ramping up as the baby boomers grapple with senility.

The Lucent section was such a delight. It's been ages since I thought about how they suckered me for twenty dollars. Selected their stock for a class project when I was eleven, and my dad actually bought one share.

100%. My greatest enemies as a software developer are pride, indolence, and procrastination. What yud offers is the dream of overcoming these not through willpower, but procedure. "Shut up and multiply," as the mantra of someone who can switch between thinking fast and thinking slow at will.

For this to happen, we will need to actually hold wealthy men accountable for their actions here in the States. I'm not optimistic.
The only good news is that China is helping subvert Russian oil influence with cheap electrification. That's a particularly thorny obstacle to a truly independent EU.

It's gone and it isn't coming back. We're never going to be in the same position again, having walked out of a calamitous world conflict smelling like roses, re-industrializing the rest of the world on our terms. We can only hope to fade into irrelevance with greater grace than the UK.
