I also read "Careless People" which amped up my desire to ditch the platform. Inertia is proving hard to overcome though.

I recently cleaned out my garage and ended up tossing decades of letters saved from my youth & feel sad. I used to write long, thoughtful, raw letters to a few deeply cared for people who responded in kind. Now we post curated, short missives on social. Something *feels* irretrievably lost.

I'm grossed out by Meta in general and want to ditch it but don't want to lose the opportunity to stay in touch easily with friends and family who live far away. I feel trapped and appalled and acutely aware of the enshitification.

I appealed.
*Immediately* the app demanded a "video selfie" that made me turn my head left and right.
Within hours my account was unsuspended.
This left me feeling a huge amount of ICK and wondering if the whole thing was a ruse to improve their facial recognition software or something.
