I’ve finally achieved my final form as a part time clerk in a second hand store. Come on down to The Dragging Anchor on the Homer Spit for all your marine consignment needs.

Julius Caesar opens in less than three weeks! I’m currently up to my elbows in retractable prop daggers and fake blood; resigning myself to the fact that a few of my cast members will need a fresh costume for every performance.

Shiver me timbers!
The Youth Theater production of Treasure Island opened tonight at Pier One Theatre on the Homer Spit. Here’s a look at some of the set and props.
We run this weekend and next on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Curtain is at 7:00 p.m.

A Statue of sled dog, Togo in Seward Park on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Pewter-colored statue of a sled dog in full run. The statue is set on a squared off chunk of rock with a plaque that reads: Togo Shelly Smith Curtis 2001 In 1925 Togo lead a sled dog team in blizzard conditions to Nome, Alaska to deliver lifesaving antitoxin during a diphtheria epidemic of 1925. He traveled nearly 300 miles, farther than any other dog in the relay. His courage saved many lives.

Also at the Museum, the biggest oil lamp I’ve ever seen. This one is the size of an LP.
The card describing it reads:

Ancient carved stone oil lamps decorated w/human figures such as this one, or animal forms have been found at Kodiak Island.
A carved stone bowl that was used as an oil lamp by indigenous people living on Cook Inlet. The bowl is about the size of a record album. It has carved swags around the outside and the head and shoulders of a human figure rising inside the bowl. Kachemak lamp, Cook Inlet, Alaska between 500 and 1100 A.D. Stone Ancient carved stone oil lamps decorated with human figures such as this one, or animal forms have been found at Kodiak Island.

Painted 15 years after Reginault’s Salome. I would swear she’s the same model. Maria Latini died in 1900 so it’s possible. Probably just looks that way to me because the style is so similar.

A barefoot woman, with a great mass of shoulder length, dark, curly hair, is dressed in a yellow off-the- shoulder blouse and an embroidered, gold skirt. She sits on an ornate box and is holding a wide, shallow bowl with a bone-handled knife in her left hand. The painting was first displayed in Paris in 1870. It has been in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan since 1916. The model, whose name was Maria Latini, looks so much like me that it’s spooky. I’m even left-handed.

Robin’s not even the sexiest part of that movie. I’ll break that little fox in half. The ROOSTER is clearly the hottest character in all of Disney. That strut, those shoulders - sitting in jail playing his lute. And his voice! My 8 yr old self fell in forever love with Roger Miller that day.
