and the new songs — one of them literally kicked off a whole wave of fan animations about scar and mufasa.

i don’t know, maybe you just needed a little push to check out some remakes. “the jungle book”, “how to train your dragon” and “mufasa” —

it just feels more honest somehow.

putting aside the obvious downsides, “mufasa” is a new story with new characters, which already expands the TLK universe. that alone makes it more interesting to watch than just a live-action “lion king” remake.

i liked the new dragon designs, the final action scene was pretty generous, and i also liked how they handled the main character’s emotions. in the cartoon he just sighs sadly when he realizes his new situation (losing his leg), but in the movie you can actually see tears in his eyes.

and recently i watched “how to train your dragon”. i’d been avoiding it for a long time because i really love the original. surprisingly, they actually managed to make it interesting. sure, in many moments the remake falls short, but i can’t call it bad.

for example — it actually turns a very old and pretty flat cartoon into something fresh and impressive. i especially remember the new version of shere khan with the blinded eye, and the brutal scene where he kills akela. the buffalo chase was also really spectacular. overall, it’s my favorite remake
