The chapter contains discussion of the literary and folkloric antecedents of films featuring goeng-si, and discussion of SPOOKY ENCOUNTERS and SPOOKY ENCOUNTERS 2, MAGIC COP, MR VAMPIRE, BLUE JEAN MONSTER, DR VAMPIRE, HAUNTED COP SHOP, and others. Lotsm of fun to research + write

Perhaps I should revisit the sequels. My feelings towards those (which I really disliked at the time) may have shifted. With hindsight I think some of my apathy towards SCREAM was shaped by personal circumstances when I saw it in '96.

Absolutely. And both fall into that category of texts w/"pedantic" titles + "vernacular" titles (SE7EN/SEVEN, eXistenZ). There's also Ted Demme's MONUMENT AVE. Arguably comparable with the use of "Dr" in "DR. NO" or "DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE." Being a pedant, I'd always go w/the "pedantic" title 😀

It’s well worth checking out. An excellent film. Great performance from Burton too.
