Goddamnit, you've got to be kind.
I hope it doesn’t go SNKT, that is not a sound that feels safe near delicate tissues

Sama hér! Svo gaman. Svo las ég í akkorði á milli vakta til að geta mælt með bókum úr jólabókaflóðinu.

My brother dug around in his shoe in the dark once and felt a potato. He immediately threw it under the bed to hide the evidence and swore up and down that Stekkjastaur had forgotten him.

He later found the shameful potato and discovered it was a mandarin orange (good, for the Bsky newbies).

The third violent crime will most likely be a murder then, to leave fewer witnesses.

No, and not knowing what prompted it must be worse. Sounds like you’ve taken all the right steps though, and I’m glad student services have been helpful.

I’m so sorry this happened. I’ve only had one confrontation like that with a student, which was easy to explain away as it was spring 2020 and the whole class was stressed (and it also became clear he was drunk). Even so, and even over Zoom, being the target of his rage was disturbing.

I agree they’re on their way out though. I got mine because I chickened out of a real EV, then switched two years later. Like training wheels.

I’m really surprised by that, anecdotally people I know who drive them like to gamify their charging / driving and brag about just how little gas they buy. I charged mine daily and it was a relief to switch to all electric.

I assumed ranked choice referred to the 5 for #1, 4 for #2 approach, which I strongly favor for the US system. If instant runoff I’m less enthused.

This is true across many fields. If I were to use AI to write a paper and it hallucinated facts or fabricated references in my research area, I know it; my students would not. Unfortunayely, they’re the ones using it while I refuse.

Vaccine-preventable diseases, however, DO cause child deaths. Today, in high-income countries with excellent health care. Measles doesn’t have a cure or specific treatment. When complications arise, only supportive care is available; most kids recover, some don’t. Some do and die later.
Measles in the Brain Can Kill Years after Infection, Child’s Death Shows
A child in Los Angeles County has died from a rare but always fatal brain disorder that develops years after a measles infection. Experts underscore the need for vaccination to protect the most vulner...

Absolutely. The descriptions of vaccine-preventable illnesses as “mild in most cases” that the antivax movement leans on, while true, ignore the spectrum of possible outcomes and the devastation they can cause.

Public health authorities owe it to the public to provide clear, evidence-based guidelines to counteract the misinformation. This move by CDC is shameful and dangerous.

Vaccine-preventable diseases also cause disability: hearing loss, intellectual disability, organ damage.

I’m sympathetic to parents who struggle with vaccine decision-making, given the emotions involved & relentless flood of misinformation. Public health authorities, however, have no such excuse.
