Professor of runology (= runes & runic inscriptions, not urology), working with all things runic and more. Own views and random thoughts.
This telegram went to the Norwegian scholar Magnus Olsen in June 1917 - with the information that a stone inscribed with older runes had been found at Eggjum in Sogndal. Now known as the Eggja stone: kulturarvsdata.se/uu/srdb/1ef4...

I very much enjoyed this one little corner where several inscriptions mention a great treasure.

One favourite among runologists is this inscription with ciphered runes mentioning a carver “most rune-skilled west of the sea” kulturarvsdata.se/uu/srdb/9cfa...

This is me on board the sailing ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl in 1994 travelling to #Shetland and #Orkney (pic taken after I got over seasickness). Tomorrow I get to go back to Kirkwall! (This time by plane, though.)

Jeg ser at MDG heller ikke stiller på kveldens folkemøte på Steinberg, og det er synd.

Just experienced an episode of home invasion by a curious magpie who came in through the slightly open side door, consumed dog food and left a trail witnessing to very fast digestion in the kitchen and the living room. Meanwhile mr Dog here went into hiding and looks all traumatized…

An amazing journey. I'm looking forward to the time lapse video once it's all completed.

Liestøl was invited to speak about the recent discoveries of runic inscriptions in Bergen. But he also spent some time examining the Kensington stone and gave his honest expert opinion (“not genuine”, which likely upset some) towards the end of his talk.

Random facts from the Runic Archives: This was going to be on the menu at the banquet, held as part of the annual meeting of the Minnesota Historical Society April 28, 1966 - with Norwegian runologist Aslak Liestøl as the invited main speaker. (The Minneapolis Star, March 28, 1966).

Probleem siiski sügavam, artikkel valgustab globaalset doominoefekti. Ja väidetavalt kuni 90% Lääne-Aafrika kalast on inimtoiduks sobilik ja sealsele elanikkonnale oluline valguallikas.

As I am working with a small book project, I also keep myself entertained - today with some Norwegian newspaper headlines. What associations does this one create?

What remains of the Klåstad ship can be seen at Slottsfjellsmuseet in Tønsberg. The wreck was discovered in 1893, excavated in 1970.

Runes and memories. I am working on something which I hope will reach (younger) readers (in Norway), curious about runes, some day soon. Sorting through old pictures, I found one of a young runologist in 2008 during her first meeting with a rune-stone in Västergötland, the one that mentions Estonia.
