Just experienced an episode of home invasion by a curious magpie who came in through the slightly open side door, consumed dog food and left a trail witnessing to very fast digestion in the kitchen and the living room. Meanwhile mr Dog here went into hiding and looks all traumatized…

Dette kommer fra en innskrift på en liten runepinne funnet under golvet i Lom stavkirke. Hele innskriften er kjent som et frierbrev der en mann ber en kvinne om å tenke seg om. Politikerne frir til sine velgere, så dette rådet står seg godt.

Nå skal jeg bruke et par dager på gjennomlesing av et manus som så skal i vei. En enkel, illustrert fagbok om #runer. Jeg har skrevet den med yngre lesere i tankene, men vil tro at noen godt voksne også vil kunne lære noe nytt. Det blir spennende å se hvordan dette går.

Liestøl was invited to speak about the recent discoveries of runic inscriptions in Bergen. But he also spent some time examining the Kensington stone and gave his honest expert opinion (“not genuine”, which likely upset some) towards the end of his talk.
Part of a newspaper story from The Minneapolis Star, Mon March 28, 1966, about the upcoming visit by runic expert Aslak Liestøl, including expectations about what he might say about the Kensington stone: “New light may be shed on the 68-year-old Kensington Runestone mystery when Norwegian runologist Dr Aslak Liestol, Oslo, visits the Twin Cities next month.”

Random facts from the Runic Archives: This was going to be on the menu at the banquet, held as part of the annual meeting of the Minnesota Historical Society April 28, 1966 - with Norwegian runologist Aslak Liestøl as the invited main speaker. (The Minneapolis Star, March 28, 1966).
A Norwegian menu will be featured at the banquet preceding the meeting, presided over by Walter N. Trenerry, society president. Delicacies will include “Kapunbryst med Brunet Ris” (breast of capon with brown rice) and Blaaber Pie” (blueberry pie).

Up to 90% of the fish used can be eaten by humans, an essential protein source in West Africa, where the majority of the population relies on fish for protein. However, as more fish are intensively removed for fish feed, stocks are declining and prices rise locally. For communities, the result is the loss of livelihoods, deepening poverty, and environmental damage from factory waste discharges.

What remains of the Klåstad ship can be seen at Slottsfjellsmuseet in Tønsberg. The wreck was discovered in 1893, excavated in 1970.

Runes and memories. I am working on something which I hope will reach (younger) readers (in Norway), curious about runes, some day soon. Sorting through old pictures, I found one of a young runologist in 2008 during her first meeting with a rune-stone in Västergötland, the one that mentions Estonia.
