It was a long time ago so I might be misremembering but I swear when I worked for Wagamama there’d be guys who’d clock in and then “take their break” right that second cos otherwise they wouldn’t have time in the shift haha

I do think the government should be really, really clear in their messaging that this is awful, but events like this are astonishingly rare and whilst it’s reasonable that it makes people anxious, it shouldn’t change travel habits OR result in any major regressive policy changes.

Is Glasgow the Philly of the UK or is Philly the Glasgow of the US? Much to consider.

Yeah Weatherwax is a libertarian¹.

Yeah it sort of weirdly works as a Tory metaphor at a times. A vague sense of anti-authoritarianism running through the entire work but with everything actually needing a powerful, ruthless paternalistic force to keep the cogs turning.

Crucially not mentioning that the packaging in Latin America does not tell consumers the level of processing - ultra or otherwise. It labels Salt, Sugar, and Fats (and in some countries, according to an article I just read, they include caffeine and artificial sweeteners)

It was fascinating bit of TV especially as the premise that Something Must Be Done about UPFs was just accepted without explaining what that something was. Eventually they halfheartedly suggested we should make the existing traffic light packaging bigger, blacker and mandatory.

Ah well you see they’re approved by tests designed by scientists who are in the pocket of big UPF just like how scientists said paid for by big tobacco said smoking was safe

Oh man it’s so bad. There is an amazing bit where they take it to a food lawyer to ask her if it’s legal and she just says “Well yes, but you are going to have to put a label on it saying it’ll make you shit yourself”

That kind of politics has massive potential if they could avoid getting riven in two over Europe pretty much straight away

In the town of Bury, Lancashire, it is apocryphally impossible to use the standard test for bowel cancer, because all the residents have so much hemoglobin in their stools because of the amount of black pudding they eat.
